Heather Hawkins, MSc, MBA
Heather co-founded CBI to prove that excellence in data management doesn’t have to come with corporate red tape or a “just enough to pass” mentality. After years of watching the industry settle for the lowest acceptable standard, she set out to create something rare: a place where innovation, flexibility, and uncompromising quality could actually thrive.
Her path to leadership began with a deep fascination for science and genetics; questions about how diseases evolve and how they might be slowed or stopped. That curiosity led her from the lab bench to the boardroom, combining a strong programming background with a talent for guiding diverse teams through complex research challenges.
Heather’s mission is also personal: as a cancer survivor, she knows firsthand what’s at stake. Every trial is more than a dataset — it’s a lifeline. That perspective fuels her insistence on precision, collaboration, and results that matter. Clients who work with Heather don’t just get clean data; they get a partner who treats their trials with the same care and urgency as if her own life depended on them—because once, it did.
Marcia Mathews, MSc
Marcia built her career on one non-negotiable: do the work right, or don’t do it at all. After years inside CROs that prioritized chasing new contracts over delivering quality results, she’d had enough. She co-founded CBI to flip that script — putting great work for current clients ahead of every shiny new lead.
Her commitment to integrity runs deep. Growing up, Marcia watched her mother battle Multiple Sclerosis without access to affordable, life-changing treatments. That experience shaped CBI’s pricing model: charging only for work performed to help keep final drug costs lower for the people who need them most.
An industry veteran, Marcia knows that clean data doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of skill, training, and relentless attention to detail. She’s on a mission to revive the kind of rigorous onboarding she once experienced, ensuring future data managers are as capable as they are committed. Clients who work with her see faster timelines, cleaner datasets, and airtight documentation.
CBI stands for Centrurus Biometrics Incorporated — but the story goes deeper than corporate initials. Heather and Marcia first bonded over a (truly terrible) TV show about a team solving impossible problems. We feel like this is our role for our clients.
Centrurus is Latin for Scorpion, which we've adopted as our business mascot.
For us, the name is a reminder of where we came from: two data pros who believed the industry could be better — and decided to make it so. Today, CBI is about much more than an inside joke; it’s a symbol of sharp thinking, relentless precision, and the kind of partnership you only find when you work with people who genuinely care about the outcome.
